Colorado Springs Solidifies Role as Nation's Space and Defense Hub
Home to Space Force operations and the annual Space Symposium, Colorado Springs continues to attract aerospace and defense companies, anchoring one of the state's fastest-growing industry clusters.
Colorado Springs has solidified its position as a national epicenter for space and defense operations.
The city hosted the 41st annual Space Symposium in April 2026, drawing thousands of global aerospace and defense leaders to The Broadmoor. The event underscores the region's outsized role in the space economy — both military and commercial.
Colorado Springs is home to U.S. Space Command, Space Operations Command, and a growing constellation of defense contractors and aerospace startups. The Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC reports that the space and defense sector is one of the region's largest employers, with thousands of high-paying jobs in engineering, cybersecurity, satellite operations, and advanced manufacturing.
The 2026 Space Symposium highlighted emerging priorities including contested satellite maneuvering, space domain awareness, and resilient satellite architectures — all areas where Colorado-based companies and military installations are at the forefront.
Beyond the military footprint, commercial space companies are expanding in the region, drawn by the existing talent pool, proximity to government customers, and quality of life. The August 2026 Air Force & Space Force Procurement Conference will further cement the city's role as a procurement and contracting hub.
For Colorado's economy, the space and defense corridor represents a competitive advantage — a high-wage, innovation-driven cluster that is resilient to many of the cyclical pressures affecting other sectors.
